Frequently Asked Questions
Do you only offer expressive arts therapy? What if I am looking for a more traditional ‘talk therapy’ session?
As a therapist, I offer both expressive arts therapy and traditional talk therapy. While expressive arts therapy can be a powerful modality for exploring emotions and experiences, I understand that it may not be the right fit for everyone. That's why I also offer traditional talk therapy, and I always work with my clients to tailor my approach to their specific needs and preferences.
If you prefer a more traditional talk therapy session, I'm happy to accommodate that preference and work with you to develop a treatment plan that aligns with your goals and needs. I endeavor to create a safe and accepting space where you feel comfortable opening up and exploring your thoughts and feelings, regardless of the type of therapy you prefer. As a therapist, I'll work collaboratively with you to understand your unique needs and preferences, and together, we'll find the best way to support your mental and emotional wellbeing.
Do I need to bring my own art supplies?
Nope! I provide all the art supplies. The fee is included in your session rate and everything you create belongs to you.
What is expressive arts therapy?
Expressive arts therapy is a form of therapy that incorporates various art modalities such as painting, drawing, music, movement, and writing. It is a client-centered approach that allows individuals to explore their emotions and experiences in a safe and creative environment.
Do I need to have prior experience in art to benefit from expressive arts therapy?
No, you don't need to be an artist or have any prior experience in art to benefit from expressive arts therapy. This form of therapy is about the process of creating rather than the final product, and your therapist will work with you to find the best art modalities for your individual needs and preferences.
What is the duration of therapy?
The duration of therapy varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Short-term therapy may consist of 6-12 sessions, while long-term therapy may last several months or longer.
How much does therapy cost?

I accept insurance from Premera and LifeWise as an in-network provider. I offer a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your needs and determine if expressive arts therapy is a good fit for you.

Expressive arts therapy can help with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, and much more. .
Is expressive arts therapy a form of diagnosis or treatment? No, expressive arts therapy is not a form of diagnosis or treatment. It is a complementary form of therapy that can be used in conjunction with traditional talk therapy or other forms of treatment.
What if I am not an artist, can I still benefit from expressive arts therapy?
Absolutely! Expressive arts therapy is not about creating a masterpiece, but rather about the process of expressing oneself through various forms of art. Even if you have no prior experience or skills in art, you can still benefit from the process of creating and exploring your emotions and experiences through the arts. The focus is on the exploration and expression of inner experiences and feelings rather than on the final product. You do not need to be a trained artist or have any specific talent to participate and benefit from expressive arts therapy.
Are there benefits to not having any prior artistic experience?
Certainly! One benefit of not having any prior experience in the arts is that it can help you approach the process with a beginner's mind, free from expectations or self-criticism. In expressive arts therapy, the focus is on the process rather than the final product, and there is no right or wrong way to create. This can be especially helpful for those who may have had negative experiences with art in the past, or who feel intimidated by the idea of creating something "good". By exploring the arts in a supportive therapeutic environment, you can discover new ways of expressing yourself and gaining insight into your thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
120 min expressive arts session info:
120-minute sessions allows for a more relaxed and unhurried atmosphere, which can be particularly beneficial if you tend to feel rushed or anxious, and can provide space for a more meaningful experience. It allows you more time to dive deeper into the creative process and explore various aspects of your story and emotions. The additional time also provides space for reflection, processing, and integration, which can support you in continuing your healing and growth outside of our sessions. And of course, any assignments or activities that we do during our time together are intended to support your goals and enhance your experience, but they are always optional and based on your personal preferences and needs. Ultimately, my goal is to create a safe and compassionate space where you feel empowered to explore and express yourself, and to support you in finding the healing and growth that you desire.
The 120-minute session will begin with a check-in where you can share how you're feeling and what you'd like to focus on during our time together. We'll then explore different expressive arts modalities such as collage, painting, movement, or sand tray, allowing you to express yourself freely and explore your emotions in a non-judgmental space.
Throughout the session, I'll be here to guide you and support you as you delve into your creative process. I may also encourage you to reflect on your artwork or movement and explore any feelings or insights that may have arisen. We'll work collaboratively to deepen your understanding of your experience and identify any potential areas for growth or healing.
Between sessions, I may offer you some personal reflection prompts or creative exercises to help you continue your exploration outside of our sessions. These exercises are designed to support your growth and deepen your understanding of yourself, and you can complete them at your own pace. Remember, this is your healing journey, and I'm here to support and guide you every step of the way.
***I recommend coming into the art studio/office for a in-person 120-min session. I provide all the art supplies that you might need to dive into the creative process!
